2014 లో శ్రీ నన్నపనేని వెంకట రావు గారి శతజయంతి ఉత్సవాల (సెంటినరీ సేలిబ్రెషన్స్) సందర్భం గా/On the eve of Sri Nannapaneni Venkata Rao’s Centenary Celebrations in 2014

“సామాన్యులు తమ కోసం,ఈ నాటి కొరకు  ఆలోచిస్తారు, అసమాన్యులు తమ తరువాతి  తరాల కోసం,భవిష్యత్ కోసం  ఆలోచిస్తారు!”

పై అక్షరాలను నిజం చేసిన మహనీయుడు శ్రీ నన్నపనేని. “తెనాలి చరిత్ర  పై తన చెరగనిముద్ర వేసిన అసమాన్యుడు శ్రీ నన్నపనేని”. గ్రామీణ రైతు కుటుంబం లో జన్మించిన శ్రీ నన్నపనే వెంకట రావు గారు చిన్న తనం నుండి నాయకత్వ మరియు పదిమందిని కలుపుకుపోయే లక్షణాలను ప్రదర్శించేవారు. యువకునిగా చురుకుగా భారత జాతియోద్యం లో పాల్గొని క్విట్ ఇండియా ఉద్యమ సందర్భంలో తెనాలి పట్టణ కాంగ్రెస్ కార్యదర్శిగా వ్యవరించినారు.

ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ శాసన సభ కు పొన్నూరు నుంచి ప్రజాప్రతినిధిగా ప్రాతినిద్యం వహించినారు. తెనాలి మున్సిపల్ చైర్మన్ గా మూడు మార్లు వ్యవరించినారు. సహకారోద్యములో పాల్గొని అనేక సహకార సంస్థల స్థాపనకు ప్రేరణ కల్పించినారు. ప్రముఖ మానవతావాది, సోషలిస్ట్, విద్యా సంస్థల నిర్మాత, దాత, దూరదృష్టి కల్గిన రాజకీయ నాయకునిగా వాసికెక్కినారు. . తెనాలి, రేపల్లె తాలుకా లలోని వ్యవసాయ కుటుంబాలకు చెందిన విద్యార్ధులకు అతి తక్కువ ఖర్చుతో నాణ్యమైన విద్యను అందించుటకు వి.ఎస్.ఆర్. కళాశాల స్థాపన కు కృషి చేసి  తను చైర్మన్ గా ఉన్న  తెనాలి మున్సిపాలిటి నుంచి ధన సహాయం అందించారు..  ఆకళాశాల వ్యవస్థాపక కార్యదర్శిగా వ్యవహరించారు.

సమాజం లోని బలహీన, దళిత,పీడిత  వర్గాల పట్ల సానుభూతి ని ప్రదర్శిస్తూ వారి సంక్షేమం కోసం అనేక అభివృద్ది కార్యక్రమాలు చేపట్టిరి. పూరి ఇళ్ళ పై పన్ను తొలగించిన మొదటి మున్సిపాలిటి గా శ్రీ నన్నపనేని వెంకట రావు గారి ఆద్వర్యం లోని తెనాలి మున్సిపాలిటి నిలిచినది. 1970 వ దశకం లో బలహీన వర్గాలపై ఒక జాతీయ సదస్సును నిర్వహించి బలహీన వర్గాల అభివృద్దికి అనేక సూచనలు చేసిరి. కాలేజి హాస్టల్ కు దళిత నేత మాజీ ముఖ్య మంత్రి శ్రీ దామోదరం సంజీవయ్య పేర నామకరణం చేసిరి

సోషలిస్ట్ భావాలను కలిగి, సమత, మానవ సమానత్వం నందు నమ్మకము ఉంచి లోక్ నాయక శ్రీ జయ ప్రకాష్ నారాయణ్ ఆశయాలు ఆదర్శాలను ఆచరణలో చూపిన సోషలిస్ట్ మరియు మానవతా వాది.

ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ లో ఒక ప్రముఖ విద్యాసంస్థగా వి.ఎస్.ఆర్. కళాశాలను తీర్చి దిద్దిరి. మాజీ రాష్ట్ర పతి శ్రీ వి.వి.గిరి, ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ ముఖ్య మంత్రులు శ్రీ నీలం సంజీవ రెడ్డి, శ్రీ బ్రహ్మానంద రెడ్డి  తదితర ప్రముఖ నాయకులు కళాశాలను దర్శించి కళాశాల అబ్యున్నతి లో వెంకట్రావు గారి పాత్రను కొనియాడిరి. మాజీ ప్రధాన మంత్రి శ్రీమతి ఇందిరా గాంధీ తో సహా అనేక మంది నాయుకులు తమ ఎన్నికల ప్రచారం లేదా పర్యటనలలో కళాశాలను దర్శించిరి.

రాష్ట్ర సమైఖ్యత, రాష్ట్ర అబివృద్ది కి తోడ్పడునని దృడంగా నమ్మి ప్రత్యెక ఆంధ్ర ఉద్యమం తెనాలి లో ఉదృతం గా కొనసాగుతున్న రోజులలో సమైఖ్య వాదాన్ని బలపరుస్తు పెద్ద ఊరేగింపును నిర్వహించి ముందు వరుసలో నిలిచిన మేరునగ ధీరుడు శ్రీ నన్నపనేని. మాజీ ప్రధాని శ్రీ పి.వి.నరసింహా రావు, శ్రీ కొత్త రఘురామయ్య వంటి నాయకుల సమకాలినునిగా మరియు వారి ప్రముఖ అనుచరులుగా ఖ్యాతి గడించిరి.

క్రీడల యందు ఆసక్తిని కలిగి బాల్-బాడ్మింటన్, కాంట్రాక్ట్ బ్రిడ్జ్,క్యారం  వంటి ఆటలలో నిపుణినిగా పేరుగాంచిరి. కాంట్రాక్ట్ బ్రిడ్జ్ ఆటలో కొత్త విధానము తెనాలి సిస్టం కనుగొనిరి. కళాశాలయందు ఆటలకు,వ్యాయామం నకు ప్రాధాన్యత ఇచ్చి కళాశాల విద్యార్ధులు అందరు సాయంకాలం మూడు గంటలకు ఆటస్థలమునకు చేరేటట్లు ఏర్పాట్లు చేసిరి. ఈ నాడు ప్రచారం లో ఉన్న కరస్పాండెన్స్ కోర్స్ ల ప్రాధాన్యతను ఆనాడే గుర్తించి కళాశాలయందు నాన్-ఫార్మల్ విద్య తరగతులను నిర్వహింప చేసిరి.

తెనాలి పట్టణం లో జరిగిన అనేక అబివృద్ది కార్యక్రమాలకు శ్రీకారం చుట్టినది శ్రీ నన్నపనేని వెంకట రావు గారే. ఐతానగర్ నుండి చినరావూరు, మెయిన్ రోడ్ మొదలగు అనేక సిమెంట్  రహదారులను నిర్మించిరి. బస్-స్టాండ్, రైల్వే స్టేషన్ లను కలుపు వంతెనల నిర్మాణము వీరి పర్యవేక్షణ లోనే జరిగినది. తెనాలి అభివృద్దిలో వీరి పాత్ర మరువలేనిది.

తెనాలి పట్టణ చరిత్ర పుటలలో ఒక మానవతావాదిగా, దూరదృష్టి కల్గిన రాజకీయ నాయకునిగా, పీడిత జన ఉద్దారకునిగా, మైనారిటి ల స్నేహితునిగా,  సమాజ సంస్కర్త గా, మంచి పరిపాలనా దక్షునిగా కలకాలం జన హృదయాలలో నిలిచి పోయే  మహనీయుడు శ్రీ నన్నపనేని వెంకట రావు గారు.  

In the annals of Tenali History “A visionary to be remembered forever”- Late Sri Nannapaneni Venakat Rao Garu

Sri Nannapaneni Venkata Rao: Freedom Fighter, Ex-MLA, Ex-Municipal Chairman, Pioneer of the co-operative movement in Tenali area , Founder  Secretary and Correspondent of the VSR College, Tenali. During the Quit-India Movement he is the secretary of the town congress committee and participated in the Quit-India Movement in 1942 and organized mass movements for the independence of the country.

Sri Nannapaneni Venkata Rao Garu a socialist, humanist and a social reformer who worked for the development and upliftment of the weaker sections of the society up to his last breath. He is a socialist and disciple of Loknayak Sri Jaya Prakash Narain .

As the Chairman of the Tenali Municipality, he waived the tax imposed on the thatched houses of the poor people. He conducted a National work-shop for the “Homeless poor “in Tenali and the then speaker of the Parliament Sri Baliram Bhagat participated in the seminar.

He is also an educationalist, philanthropist and instrument behind the establishment of the VSR College which caters to the educational needs of the old Tenali and Repalle Talukha people of the downtrodden and poor. Former President of India Sri VV Giri, and former Union Minister of Cabinet Smt. Sheila Kaul visited the college and appreciated the role played by the late Sri Nannapani Venkata Rao in providing the affordable and qualitative education to the poor people of the surrounding areas. Many great personalities of his time visited the college under his management and applauded the educational services provided by the Sri N.Venkata Rao .

As a sports man he excelled in Ball-Badminton, kabaadi, karoom and Contract Bridge and he invented a new system Contract Bridge which is named after him as Tenali system.

He is a distinguished personality in the town and he is a staunch supporter of United Andhra Pradesh. In those days, he organized a procession with exemplarily courage and valor in supporting the Unification of the state when passions for separatist movement were very much high in the town.

Many development activities in the area were initiated by Sri Nannapani Venkata Rao Garu (The New RTC Bus Stand, The Bridge to connect Bus Stand to Railway Station, The Main Road and the Bose Road (Cement Roads etc.)

Late Prime Minister of India Sri PV Narasimha Rao and Former Union Cabinet Minister Sri Kotha Raghuramaih gaaru, former AP Chief Minister Sri B.Venkata Rami Reddy were his contemporaries and he is a close confidant of them. Late Prime Minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi and the beloved leader of our Telugu People Anna Sri N.T. Rama Rao and other great personalities also visited the college in their election campaigns or in their tour programmes.
